For a business paying an hourly workforce, the connection between schedules, recorded time and payroll can drive the software decision. TimeTrex's workforce management software brings attendance, employee records and pay processing together.
An overseas hire raises a separate question: who will employ the person locally? Borderless AI's EOR service supplies that employment arrangement without establishing your own local entity, alongside contracts, payroll, benefits and compliance support. TimeTrex can remain useful for an existing workforce while Borderless handles an overseas employee who needs an EOR.
Borderless AI and TimeTrex at a glance
TimeTrex's service terms, deployment options and product documentation support these distinctions. Borderless's EOR and global payroll are separate services, so choose the scope before comparing proposals.
When TimeTrex is the closer fit
TimeTrex deserves consideration if payroll starts with shifts and clocked hours. Its documentation describes employee schedules, real-time attendance, correction requests, tax and benefit calculations, pay stubs and payment processing. For an operations team, the practical evaluation is whether those functions handle its actual pay rules and approval process.
The commercial editions also differ. Professional includes payroll, time and attendance, scheduling and leave management. Corporate adds job costing, geofencing, document management and invoicing. Enterprise adds expense management, recruitment and applicant tracking.
That makes the edition decision consequential. A company that needs to allocate labor to customer projects should evaluate the relevant package, rather than assume every advertised capability comes with the entry edition.
TimeTrex also offers on-site deployment with source-code access. That gives an internal IT team a deployment and customization option worth evaluating alongside the hosted service.
Supported countries: separate tax functions from international hiring
TimeTrex's payroll page explicitly describes US and Canadian tax reports, including W-2s, 1099s, T4s and Records of Employment. Its payment service terms address employment tax services in the United States and Canada.
The vendor also advertises multi-country capabilities. Those statements do not provide a complete country-by-country specification of calculations, filings and payments. Ask for confirmation of the exact jurisdiction and services required. A UK buyer, for example, should request specific confirmation of UK payroll calculations and HMRC submissions before selecting it for UK employees.
Do not confuse that verification with the employer question. TimeTrex's terms say customers remain responsible for timely payroll tax returns and payments for their employees, even when engaging its employment tax services. Payroll administration does not by itself supply an overseas employer.
Borderless AI's EOR is relevant when that employment arrangement is missing. If you already have employer infrastructure abroad and need pay administration, evaluate its global payroll service separately.
TimeTrex pricing and the Community Edition question
TimeTrex's pricing page presents Professional, Corporate and Enterprise plans. It states a minimum one-year commitment, possible activation fees and possible additional biometric timeclock fees. Obtain a quote for your headcount and required services.
Be careful with older claims that TimeTrex is simply free payroll software. Its Community Edition page still describes an open-source edition and distinguishes it from commercial packages. During our October 2026 check, that page's download link redirected to a free-trial signup.
An open-source product, a free trial and an available free edition are different propositions. Confirm current access, maintenance, tax updates and support before budgeting for the Community Edition. Source-code access alone does not establish zero ongoing cost.
Compare TimeTrex's software and payroll-service quote with the Borderless service you need. An EOR quote covers a different responsibility from a payroll software subscription; a lower software fee cannot settle that decision.
Can you keep TimeTrex and use Borderless AI?
Yes, that can be a sensible operating choice: retain TimeTrex for an existing workforce and evaluate Borderless EOR for employees in a new country where you lack employer infrastructure.
Before proceeding, agree on who approves hours, how approved payroll inputs reach each provider and which system holds each employee's records.
If your issue is inaccurate hours or disconnected scheduling, start by evaluating TimeTrex's workflow. If your next hire needs an overseas legal employer, start with Borderless AI's EOR. Match the service to the employment problem first.
