A shift manager needs approved hours to reach the pay run with the right rates and leave balances. That is the problem Deputy Payroll is built around. In the US, it connects Deputy's workforce tools with Paycor; in Australia, Deputy offers its own integrated payroll product.
Borderless AI becomes relevant when the question changes: who will legally employ an overseas team member? Its EOR service supports international employment without setting up your own local entity. A business can need both services, for different employees.
The practical difference
The useful comparison starts with the people you need to employ and the pay process you need to improve. An overseas hire does not automatically make the existing shift system the wrong choice.
How Deputy and Paycor work together in the US
Deputy Payroll enabled by Paycor connects the work record to the pay run. Deputy manages time, pay rates and leave; Paycor handles payroll functions including banking, tax filings and year-end processing. Employees can see their Paycor paystubs in Deputy's mobile app.
The setup guide makes the operating detail clearer: departments, earnings codes and employee Payroll IDs need to match. Managers approve timesheets in Deputy, send them to Paycor and review the payroll journal before finalizing pay. Deputy also instructs customers to turn off Paycor leave accruals when Deputy takes responsibility for that calculation, to prevent double counting.
For a business already managing hourly teams in Deputy, this is a concrete reason to consider its payroll offering. A useful demo should follow one employee through a normal shift, overtime, a leave request and a pay-rate change. Check the final pay result and reporting, as well as the initial transfer of hours.
Australia has a different Deputy Payroll product
The Australian edition keeps approved timesheets and payroll within Deputy. Its AU product page describes multiple payroll entities in one account, award templates, configurable pay rules and employee access to payslips.
This distinction matters when researching Deputy payroll alternatives. A US description of a Paycor connection does not explain the Australian product. An Australian feature such as managing multiple ABN branches does not establish multinational payroll coverage.
What about the UK and Canada?
Deputy's workforce software has broader availability than these payroll editions. Its UK pricing page includes payroll integrations, while the US payroll add-on is expressly offered on eligible US plans.
A UK business can examine a local payroll connection, such as Deputy's Xero integration. A Canadian buyer should confirm the specific Canadian payroll provider and supported data flow before buying. Being able to schedule a Canadian employee is a separate question from calculating and filing Canadian payroll.
For either market, ask which system calculates pay, which submits local filings, and how approved hours reach it. A general statement that Deputy is available in your country does not answer all three.
When Borderless AI belongs in the decision
Consider a US retailer that uses Deputy for store staff and wants to employ a remote specialist abroad. If the retailer needs a local legal employer for that hire, connecting more timesheets to payroll does not supply one.
Borderless AI's employment service covers the EOR role alongside onboarding, employment agreements, payroll, taxes and benefits. Confirm support for the destination and employment arrangement before proceeding.
The retailer could keep Deputy and its existing payroll for store employees, then use Borderless for the overseas employee. Establish how that employee's approved compensation, leave and employment costs will reach the people responsible for finance. Agree on that process before the first pay cycle.
Compare the full price for the right service
As checked on October 19, 2026, Deputy's US pricing displays payroll at US$8 per user per month plus a US$49 monthly base fee, excluding applicable taxes. It requires annual Core or Pro and says base and employee fees vary by business size. Include the required workforce plan when requesting a quote.
The Australian payroll add-on is listed at A$5 per user per month, billed monthly and excluding applicable taxes, alongside a required Deputy workforce subscription. Australian pricing is not a quote for the US product.
For Borderless, request an EOR proposal that separates the service fee from salary, employer costs and benefits. A payroll add-on and an employment service cover different responsibilities; their headline monthly fees do not establish a like-for-like saving.
Questions to settle before choosing
Can I keep Deputy and add Borderless?
Yes, as a buying approach for separate employee groups. Keep the shift workflow that serves local staff and evaluate EOR for hires needing an overseas employer. Agree how records and costs will be reconciled across the services.
Is Borderless an alternative for scheduling hourly teams?
The reason to evaluate Borderless here is the overseas employment requirement. If your problem is scheduling, attendance or moving hours into an existing pay run, start with Deputy's relevant workflow.
Does paying an overseas contractor solve the same problem?
First establish whether the arrangement is employment or independent contracting. If the person needs an employment relationship, assess the legal employer and employment service required before choosing the payment method.
