A Vermont business looking at PayData may need someone to handle payroll taxes, connect working hours to wages and help employees find their pay records. PayData's payroll service addresses that work with tax filing support and connections to timekeeping, onboarding and accounting.
There is also a name change to understand: Asure now markets the Vermont business as formerly PayData. Buyers should evaluate the current Asure proposal rather than assume an old PayData package still defines the offer.
Borderless AI becomes relevant when the problem extends to employing someone abroad without setting up your own local entity. Its EOR service includes employment agreements, onboarding, payroll, taxes and benefits. For a business satisfied with its U.S. payroll, that may be an additional service for an overseas hire rather than a reason to replace payroll at home.
What are you asking the provider to do?
PayData's service scope and Borderless's employment offering support these different starting points. The right comparison begins with where the employee works and which organization will employ them.
Is PayData the same as Asure?
The connection is visible in both companies' customer-facing material. Alongside Asure's former-PayData landing page, the PayData login page identifies Asure Payroll as the successor name to Evolution Payroll. It also lists separate access points for timekeeping and HR.
For a buyer, the practical question is which applications and services will appear in the actual agreement. Ask for a demonstration using your workflow: approved hours, a new employee, a payroll correction and the accounting entry. Confirm who supports each step and whether staff need separate access to different applications.
PayData also advertises employee self-service for pay statements, tax forms, leave requests and benefit elections. These are useful capabilities for an established workforce. Adding an overseas employee does not automatically make them unnecessary.
Does payroll outsourcing change who employs your staff?
Outsourcing administration can reduce internal work while leaving employer responsibilities with your business.
Asure's payroll terms require customers to supply and approve accurate payroll information and retain responsibilities under employment and tax laws. Its separately described AsureWorks service makes the distinction explicit: specialists operate payroll and HR administration while the customer remains employer of record.
That is a different arrangement from using an EOR to supply the legal employer for a hire abroad. Review the employment agreement and service contract to establish who employs the person, who performs each administrative task and what decisions still require your approval.
If you already have suitable employer infrastructure where the person works, a payroll arrangement may be enough. Borderless also offers global payroll, which should be evaluated separately from its EOR service.
Can PayData handle international payroll?
A PayData system update mentions an international payroll partner, without identifying the partner or supported countries on that page.
For a Canadian or U.K. hire, ask which service is available today, who signs the employment agreement and whether the arrangement requires your business to be the local employer. A partner's ability to process pay does not, by itself, answer the employment question.
A Canadian or U.K. headquarters evaluating payroll for U.S. staff should likewise assess the U.S. workforce's needs. The buyer's address and the employee's work location are separate considerations.
How should you compare prices?
PayData's published packages use a per-payroll basis, while Asure's former-PayData page directs buyers to request pricing. Obtain a current written quote before relying on those package descriptions.
Compare the annual service cost for your actual pay schedule and headcount. Ask how payroll corrections, additional runs, year-end forms, timekeeping, onboarding and accounting connections affect the total.
For an EOR proposal, separate the service fee from salary, employer taxes and benefits. Comparing a payroll processing fee with the entire cost of employing someone would distort the decision.
A useful shortlist follows the work: evaluate PayData's current Asure offer for U.S. payroll administration; evaluate Borderless EOR when an overseas employee needs a local legal employer. Keeping both arrangements can make sense when each serves a distinct part of the workforce.
