Key Takeaways

  • sumHR fits an existing India team wanting payroll connected to attendance and leave, with Tally and Excel exports.
  • It offers payroll outsourcing for India and UAE; outsourcing alone does not make sumHR the worker’s legal employer.
  • For an overseas hire needing a local legal employer, evaluate Borderless AI’s EOR and confirm country availability.

An Indian payroll run can involve attendance adjustments, variable pay, investment declarations and exit settlements. sumHR's payroll software brings those tasks into its HR platform. If your team already employs people in India and wants to reduce spreadsheet work, that is a relevant starting point.

Borderless AI becomes relevant when the missing piece is an employer for a hire abroad. Its EOR service supports international employment without setting up your own local entity, including contracts, onboarding, payroll and benefits.

For a US, Canadian or UK company evaluating the two, start with the worker's location and employment setup. Your headquarters' address does not turn Indian payroll software into a US, Canadian or UK payroll edition. Equally, an overseas hire does not automatically mean replacing the payroll system your existing team uses.

The comparison is between different purchases. A payroll calculation tool, a managed payroll engagement and an EOR arrangement should each have their own scope of work.

Where sumHR fits an existing India team

sumHR supports configurable salary components, trial payroll runs, TDS calculations, provident fund calculations and full-and-final settlements. Its payroll workflow also connects with attendance and leave modules and provides Tally and Excel exports.

That makes it worth considering when the operational problem is getting approved inputs into payroll and getting usable records out. A useful demo should follow one employee through a normal pay run, a bonus, an attendance correction and an exit. Ask your payroll owner to check the resulting calculations and accounting output.

Buying software still requires someone to own the run. sumHR's service terms assign customers responsibility for verifying payroll and statutory outputs, while allowing a separate written service agreement to override inconsistent standard terms. If you buy outsourced processing, get the division of work in writing: who reviews inputs, files returns, authorizes payments and corrects an error?

sumHR pricing: compare the actual plan

As checked on October 19, 2026, sumHR's published plans list Startup at ₹49, Basic at ₹69 and Advanced at ₹119 per user per month, billed annually. The page advertises a free alternative with Jupiter Salary Accounts and a one-time setup fee. Confirm eligibility and the final quote.

There is a consequential payment detail: the Advanced plan lists online direct salary transfer with an asterisk marked “Coming Soon.” Ask which payment method is live for your account and who executes the bank transfer. Generating payroll and moving salary funds are separate steps.

For Borderless, request an EOR proposal that separates the service fee from salary, employer contributions and benefits. Comparing that total with an HR software subscription would obscure what you are buying. Compare the cost of the employment arrangement you need, then compare administration costs within that arrangement.

Can sumHR handle international employees?

sumHR's standard service description specifies payroll processing for India. Its separately advertised UAE outsourcing offer means it should not be described as an India-only business. But an outsourcing offer is not, by itself, a promise to become the worker's legal employer.

If your company has an Indian subsidiary employing its team, sumHR may address that payroll workload. If your next employee will work in another country where you need a legal employer, evaluate Borderless's EOR service for that hire and confirm country availability before committing.

You can keep sumHR for the existing team and use EOR for the new employee. Set a common approval calendar and decide how both sets of costs reach finance. Include employee details, approved variable pay, payslips and invoices in that handoff discussion.

Is Borderless AI a sumHR alternative?

It is a relevant alternative when your requirement has changed from administering payroll to arranging overseas employment. It is a different kind of purchase from replacing an HRMS for attendance, leave and Indian salary calculations.

Before making a shortlist, write one sentence: “We already have the employer and need payroll,” or “We need an employer for this overseas employee.” Then name the country and the tasks you want someone else to own. That brief will produce a more useful proposal than asking both vendors for the same list of features.
