When monthly payroll depends on one person collecting hours, checking changes and answering payslip questions, buying another software licence may leave the same workload in place. LivePay's managed service puts payroll processing with a specialist team, supported by a portal for managers and employees.
Borderless AI becomes relevant when the problem extends to employing someone abroad without your own local entity. Its EOR service covers the employment relationship alongside payroll, taxes and benefits.
For an established UK employer seeking payroll administration, LivePay deserves consideration on that basis. For an overseas employee who needs a legal employer, assess Borderless AI's EOR service. A business with both needs may use both services for different employees.
What are you handing over?
This comparison concerns the UK LivePay service at livepay.co.uk, operated by Central Computer Management Ltd.
LivePay's published coverage includes Ireland and the Crown Dependencies. That list does not establish US or Canadian payroll support. A US or Canadian headquarters should check where its employees will be employed, rather than assume its own location determines suitability.
The responsibility distinction follows LivePay's client workflow and Borderless AI's EOR explanation. Outsourcing processing and appointing a legal employer are different decisions.
Where LivePay earns its place
LivePay is more than access to payroll software. Its outsourcing package includes payroll specialists, HMRC submissions, pension auto-enrolment administration, starter and leaver processing, statutory pay and deductions. Employees can retrieve payroll documents through self-service access.
That makes it a plausible fit when your company already employs the team and wants someone else to run payroll operations. Moving those employees to an EOR would be a different project from replacing your payroll processor.
Managed payroll still needs accurate business inputs. LivePay's client guidance explains that questions about missing overtime or bonuses can return to the client because LivePay may not hold that information. Decide who owns those corrections before agreeing the monthly timetable.
Can LivePay work with your HR and finance systems?
LivePay documents CSV and API options, including imports from HR, roster and time systems, plus exports for accounts journals and pension files. It describes named connections with Breathe HR, SMI Staff.Care and Caxton.
Those details matter more than a general integration checkbox. For example, its Breathe workflow extracts employee data through an API, while payslips can be downloaded from LivePay and uploaded to Breathe. Ask which steps your team will still perform, how employee identifiers match and how errors are corrected.
If LivePay remains your payroll provider while another service employs overseas staff, agree how both sets of employment costs reach finance. A combined reporting process does not require every employee to move to the same provider.
How should you compare pricing and contract terms?
LivePay's pricing FAQ directs buyers to a quote based on headcount, payroll complexity and data collection. It describes an inclusive payroll price, with additional charges for pension-file uploads, P11Ds and the pension regulator's Declaration of Compliance. Its stated standard contract is 36 months, with other lengths available on request.
Ask the proposal to specify the charging unit, pay frequency, optional work and exit terms. The FAQ uses both per-employee and per-payslip language, making that clarification useful for weekly or irregular payrolls.
Compare payroll processing fees with payroll processing fees. For EOR employment, request a separate breakdown of the service fee, salary, statutory employer costs and benefits. Neither a bare payslip rate nor a salary-inclusive invoice gives a fair comparison on its own.
What if your next hire is overseas?
Start with the employment arrangement. Borderless AI's EOR model provides a legal employer while you manage the person's work. That is the relevant service when an overseas employee needs employment infrastructure you do not have.
If you already have a suitable employer arrangement, compare payroll administration instead. Borderless AI also markets global payroll, a separate service scope to discuss against your actual requirements.
LivePay can remain the appropriate choice for the payroll it already handles. Adding an overseas hire creates a new employment question; it does not automatically create a reason to replace a working payroll bureau.
