A late salary change or missing overtime entry can turn a UK pay run into a scramble between HR and finance. BrightHR Payroll addresses that handoff with connected HR and payroll, plus a choice between running payroll yourself and outsourcing it to its team.
That is a different purchase from finding a legal employer for someone working abroad. Borderless AI's Employer of Record service covers international employment without setting up your own local entity, including contracts, payroll, taxes and benefits.
For an existing UK workforce, BrightHR deserves consideration on its payroll merits. For an overseas employee who needs a local employer, assess the employment arrangement first. You may need both services for different people.
What are you trying to hand over?
The useful comparison is responsibility: processing a payroll, operating that process for you, or supplying the legal employer. A longer feature list cannot settle that choice.
Where BrightHR Payroll fits
BrightHR's UK software and support includes pay and deduction calculations, employee access to payslips and tax forms, HMRC reporting, and controls to lock or reopen pay runs. It also offers access to CIPP-qualified payroll professionals.
That combination is relevant when payroll work remains in-house but employee data changes throughout the month. During a demonstration, use a real example: a salary adjustment after your normal cut-off. Ask who can reopen the run, what changes reach payroll, and what the final reviewer sees.
If the bottleneck is staffing the payroll function, BrightHR also sells a managed service. Its team handles calculations, deductions and HMRC submissions. This is a substantive outsourcing option, rather than software alone.
Outsourcing still leaves a handoff. BrightHR's onboarding guide asks clients to keep employee changes current and validate completed payroll. Migration includes prior payroll data and a parallel test run. Agree who owns corrections, approvals and the first live payday before moving away from your existing provider.
Is BrightHR Payroll available in Canada or the US?
The payroll software and managed service discussed here are BrightHR's UK offering, with HMRC workflows. BrightHR's presence in another country does not establish that the same payroll product is available there.
In Canada, BrightHR markets Payroll Navigator for storing payroll information and producing reports such as timesheets, vacation summaries and payroll exceptions. Canadian buyers should distinguish that reporting tool from the UK payroll engine and managed service. Ask specifically who calculates deductions, remits payments and completes local filings.
US buyers should similarly request a country-specific payroll scope before shortlisting BrightHR for American employees. A country selector or an international customer base is not enough to establish coverage.
Also check the product name: BrightPay is a separate payroll product. Its plans and features should not be attributed to BrightHR Payroll.
What does BrightHR Payroll cost?
BrightHR's pricing example, checked October 19, 2026, shows five employees with Core HR at £83.35 per month and payroll software at £16.50, for £99.85 per month excluding tax. The example is based on a 36-month term, with an additional implementation fee based on employee count. Software with advice and managed payroll are separate selections.
Treat that as a configured example, not a universal payroll-only price. Request the total for your headcount, chosen service and contract length, including implementation and any required HR subscription.
An EOR quote needs a separate assessment because it includes an employment service. Compare provider fees separately from salary, employer contributions and benefits. A UK payroll software subscription and the cost of employing someone overseas are different budgets.
Can you keep BrightHR and use Borderless AI abroad?
Yes, retaining UK payroll while arranging employment for an overseas hire can be a sensible operating choice. For example, a UK business could keep its established payroll process for local employees and assess EOR for a new employee in a country where it has no employer infrastructure.
The practical work is coordinating records and costs. Decide where employee information is maintained, how each service's costs reach accounting, and who approves changes. Ask for the actual reporting or data-transfer method during procurement.
If your concern is simply UK payroll workload, evaluate BrightHR's software and managed options first. If it is employing a person abroad, use the EOR versus payroll distinction to establish who will legally employ them before comparing proposals.
