Payment Information

Minimum Wage

BMD 400 per month.

Overtime Pay

The standard working hours are 8 hours per day and 40 hours per week. Overtime pay is 1.5 times the employee's regular wage.

Additional Pay

Bereavement leave: Employees are entitled to 3 days leave when there is a death of an immediate family member and 5 days to attend funerals of family members overseas.

Payroll Cycle

For all Borderless customers, employee payments will be made in equal monthly installments on or before the last working day of each calendar month, payable in arrears.

Employer Costs & Taxes

Employers are subject to a payroll tax in Bermuda, with the rate depending on the employer category or the yearly payroll total.

  • Less than 200,000 BMD annual payroll: 1.75%
  • 200,000 BMD - 350,000 BMD annual payroll: 3.5%
  • 350,001 BMD - 500,000 BMD annual payroll: 6.5%
  • 500,001 BMD - 1 million BMD annual payroll: 9%
  • More than 1 million BMD annual payroll: 10.25%

Termination Process

The employer must provide a written notice for the termination.

Notice period

The notice period depends on the employee's payroll cycle.

  • Employees being paid every week: 1 week
  • Employees being paid every two weeks: 2 weeks
  • Employees being paid in other pay cycles: 1 month

Probation Period

The average probation period in Bermuda is 6 months.

Severance Details

The severance pay is determined by the length of employment. The minimum severance pay is 2 weeks' salary for each year of employment up to 10 years, and 3 weeks' salary for each year of employment thereafter, capping at 26 weeks' salary.
